September 2019 – Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

The first day of school, the first day of first grade, so much optimism, so much hope for the future.

Usually.

But not for Avery.

Her last first day of school was the first day of first grade.

A grade she would never get to complete because DIPG took her.

Imagine picking your child up from school on the last day of kindergarten, they run to the car, they look completely healthy and everything seems normal, and when you drop them off for the first day of first grade, you push them into their class in a wheelchair, they need a para, they need certain things in place just for them to have any resemblance of normalcy and they have a terminal illness that all but guarantees they won’t make it to the last day of school.

Now imagine that child, not feeling sorry for herself, fully expecting to go to school, staying all day, going to recess and trying to keep things as normal for herself as she possibly could, even though this tumor did everything in its power to take that from her.

And that’s how Avery treated the first day of first grade and every subsequent day.

She was going to make each day count and make each day matter.

Make each day matter! Do something to help!

If you would like to stand with us and fight for a cure for children ahead, we welcome you to:

**Attend the Be Strong, Go Gold Gala on Saturday, September 28th. It is a special evening to honor our DIPG warriors, hear important medical research project updates, be inspired to take action to be STRONG and go GOLD in honor of our children who need us now more than ever. There are still tickets and sponsorships available. The event include drinks, appetizers, a formal dinner, silent and live auction and our ever-popular gourmet dessert dash! Head on over to http://bidpal.net/BeStrongGoGoldGala for all the details.

**Dine out at any (or ALL!) of our Hops n Drops “A Neighborhood Gathering Place” Eat to Defeat events on Tuesday evenings during the month of September (Maple Valley 9/10, Bonney Lake 9/17, Lakeland Hills 9/24). 20% of your entire meal bill will roll back to the foundation for medical research. This is an easy way to grab a great meal, all while supporting the fight for a cure for our children.
