The Foundation Hits the One-Year Mark
One year ago today, on May 6th, we officially announced the Avery Huffman Defeat DIPG Foundation.
As we “celebrate” the one-year mark today, we look back on our first year, so grateful for the support we have received from so many folks.
We miss our little girl so much.
But we vowed that we would never stop fighting for her.
And if our first year is an indicator, it is not just our family that keeps fighting for Avery, but so many more.
We raised over $100,000 in year one, with overwhelming grief and emotion fresh off losing Avery to the monster that is DIPG, with little time from when we started the foundation from that day and with little experience in running a foundation.
But we were able to do so because of the commitment and support from friends, family and others we’ve never even met, to honor Avery and to join with us in our vow to keep on fighting.
So today, as the Avery Huffman Defeat DIPG Foundation marks its anniversary, we simply say, thank you.
Thank you for your love for Avery, your commitment to fighting with us, your support for all DIPG warriors, both who are battling and who bravely battled.
Thank you for not running from us but instead tightening your grip in this fight.
We wish we never were in this position.
We wish this foundation never had to exist.
We wish more than anything, DIPG didn’t exist and didn’t take our Avery from us.
But since this is the hand we were dealt, we will fight back.
Forever, we will fight.
And our hope is that you continue to fight with us.
In Year Two. In Year Three. In every subsequent year.
So we can slay this monster, once and for all.
We’re so thankful for our partners Michael Mosier Defeat DIPG Foundation, Mark and Jenny Mosier, for their support and bringing us along so we could launch.
As well as our partners in Texas, the Connor Man Defeat DIPG Foundation.
We are grateful for the other DIPG families locally and nationally, who’ve been incredible supports as well.
We guess its somewhat appropriate that on the day we reach the one-year mark, we are in Cincinnati at the 2017 DIPG Symposium, with so many other foundations that honor other DIPG warriors, sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, so cruelly taken far too soon.
And here with people who vowed to their own warrior, they would never stop fighting.
There is strength in numbers. With all of these foundations and with our own.
So many, committed to fighting.
We are eternally thankful for all of our supporters and hope you stick with us.
Come to our events, support our cause, like our Facebook, follow us on Twitter, follow us on Instagram, wear our gear.
But most importantly, continue to share about Avery and her fight.
She never gave up and she never stopped fighting.
There is no way we can either.
And there is no way we ever will.
As we start year two, our fight is even more zealous.
Keep fighting with us.
Thank you for all of the support during Avery’s fight.
Thank you for the support in Year One.
And thank you for all the support still to come.
