May 2017 Brings Two Major Events To State Of Washington

“Broadway for Bravery” & DIPG Awareness Day in Washington on the docket for May 2017

April 24, 2017 — The middle of May is gearing up to be a busy time for the Avery Huffman Defeat DIPG Foundation, with the inaugural “Broadway for #BrAvery” event on May 13th in Auburn, Washington and the state of Washington’s first “DIPG Awareness Day” on May 17th.

Local talent will perform current and classic Broadway hits at the first “Broadway for #BrAvery” on Saturday, May 13th, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. at the Auburn Riverside Theater (ART) at Auburn Riverside High School in Auburn, Wash.

Featuring student director and producer, McKenna Webb, and in partnership with the Auburn Riverside High School’s International Thespians Society, the production will be filled with different Broadway and popular Disney musical numbers with all proceeds benefiting the Avery Huffman Defeat DIPG Foundation to fund medical research needed to fight Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG) the deadliest form of brain cancer.

During Avery Huffman’s 7.5 month fight against DIPG, she impacted many in the Auburn community where she lived, including McKenna Webb, who was a finalist for Miss Auburn’s Outstanding Teen with her platform being DIPG Awareness.

Avery’s fight inspired McKenna, who attended Lakeland Hills Elementary School where Avery was a student.  It motivated her platform and McKenna continues to spread awareness of DIPG. It is what has inspired her to bring her passion for theater and her drive to share Avery’s story together for an event for the Auburn community and the Avery Huffman Defeat DIPG Foundation.

McKenna has performed in over 20 musicals and plays in the Greater Seattle Area as well as participated in the prestigious Summer Musical Theater Institute at Wagner College in New York.

Performers of the Auburn Community who were touched by Avery and others who wants to support cancer research will perform Broadway hits to raise money for her foundation. “Broadway for #BrAvery” will take place at the Auburn Riverside Theater (ART) on Saturday, May 13, 2017.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students (preschool through high school), with all proceeds going directly to the AHDDF.  Pre-sale tickets can be purchased at Auburn Riverside High School located at 501 Oravetz Road SE, Auburn, Washington Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:30am and 3:00pm.

The following week is the first recognized DIPG Awareness Day in the state of Washington.

Washington governor Jay Inslee announced last month that May 17th, 2017 has officially been proclaimed “DIPG Awareness Day” in the state of Washington.

In partnership with the Michael Mosier Defeat DIPG Foundation and as part of the DIPG Across the Map initiative, Washington joins a handful of other states that have also declared May 17th, 2017 as “DIPG Awareness Day.
